We get these questions a lot. Here are our best answers...
I have never done Physical Therapy before. What can I expect?
Anticipate being heard and valued as we uncover the underlying cause of your muscle and joint pain during our comprehensive assessment. Subsequently, a tailored treatment plan is crafted to meet your specific needs, initiating the treatment process. While each plan is unique, hands-on therapies and precise exercise coaching are commonly integrated. Appointments, typically scheduled once or twice per week, ensure personalized attention. Throughout the process, you'll work directly with Dr. Roger Karsten and his assistant, Lorena Reyes, maintaining a focused and individualized approach.
Is Physical Therapy covered by my health insurance?
Physical Therapy services are typically covered by your health insurance. We gladly handle the filing of claims with your insurance carrier on your behalf. We are a Medicare certified provider and are in-network with Blue Cross, Priority Health, Aetna, and most other carriers. Feel free to reach out if you have any specific questions about your insurance coverage—we're here to assist you. For individuals with a high deductible or those currently without insurance, we provide a self-pay option at $80 per session ($100 Initial Evaluation).
I heard you offer a free consultation. What is that about?
Numerous individuals in our community are grappling with muscle and joint issues, often uncertain about finding suitable assistance. Our complimentary consultation serves as a chance for individuals to engage with Dr. Roger Karsten, discuss their concerns, and receive answers to their questions. Moreover, it provides an opportunity for Dr. Karsten to evaluate whether Physical Therapy can be beneficial and to discuss what a successful treatment plan would entail. This consultation comes at no cost, and there is absolutely no obligation to commence Physical Therapy afterward.
Are there conditions that you don’t treat?
Certainly. We don't specialize in treating young children, and we may not be the optimal choice for individuals dealing with complex neurological or systemic diseases. Pelvic health for women or men and wound care are also outside our area of expertise.
I had Physical Therapy before and it did not really work for me. How are you different?
Patients who've previously undergone Physical Therapy elsewhere often note our distinctive approach. Working exclusively with Dr. Roger Karsten, boasting over 30 years of experience in addressing muscle and joint pain, sets us apart. Our emphasis on results-based Physical Therapy means constant adaptation of your treatment plan based on your body's response. Additionally, our incorporation of highly effective hands-on therapies further distinguishes our practice.
Do I have to commit to a whole series of sessions when I start Physical Therapy?
Certainly not. The frequency of your treatment sessions and the overall duration of your care are determined solely by your body's response to our treatment. It's crucial to recognize that we align our approach with your body's natural healing process, allowing it to guide us in determining the most appropriate frequency and duration for optimal results.
Do I need a referral from my Doctor before starting Physical Therapy?
Michigan operates under direct access for Physical Therapy, allowing you to initiate treatment without a referral for the initial 10 sessions. If ongoing sessions are necessary beyond this period, a referral becomes required. It's important to note that your insurance might mandate a referral for coverage of physical therapy services. To streamline this process, we generate an initial evaluation report and kindly request your primary care provider to sign it. This report then serves as both the evaluation and referral, ensuring a seamless transition into your treatment plan.
What conditions do you treat?
Our expertise lies in addressing a variety of muscle and joint issues, encompassing all joints, including the spine. We also assist individuals dealing with nerve impingement concerns like sciatica in the leg and nerve pain in the arm. Additionally, we provide specialized care for more chronic conditions such as long COVID and scoliosis. We also specialize in assisting individuals with rehabilitation after orthopedic or other surgeries. Should you have inquiries regarding your particular conditions, feel free to reach out, and we are more than happy to provide answers and guidance.
